Character First
Our Priority
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit. (Aristotle)
In West View, we believe in paving the way for our pupils to excel and succeed. Through Start-It-Right Programme, we set the agenda for pupils to focus for the term and week - we set the tone, provide feedback and celebrate efforts. With the clarity of expectations and timely feedback, it becomes more evident that pupils give their best in pursuing excellence along the way.
Our Core
What a child can do in cooperation today, he can do alone tomorrow (Vygotsky, 1962).
Social interaction plays an important role in the learning of a child, particularly character development. Through interactions, pupils co-construct knowledge and turn this into positive actions. In West View, we capitalise on this and add an element of fun through our Model Class Award (MCA), a termly award given to classes for their actions in the classroom and beyond.
Our Foundation
While a school teaches its pupils how to be part of a community, it has an important role to be one community itself (Dewey, 1900). In West View, we bring about the sense of community through our Values-In-Action Programme, where pupils create awareness, spread influence and call for action among their peers. This way, they become one another’s positive influence where their impact can be felt beyond themselves.
Ultimately, West Viewans take pride in fostering self-directedness and discipline, turning knowledge into positive actions. West Viewans are anchored by core values to become exemplary individuals for themselves, their family and our Singapore.
