G.R.O.W.ing U.P
To support our vision “A Strong Start for Every Child”, G.R.O.W.ing U.P is designed to promote holistic development of our children with a focus on inculcating values and developing social and emotional competencies in them. As the early years is a critical period of children’s growth and development, it also aims to create their awareness in healthy eating and keeping physically active that will help them develop habits to embrace an active and healthy lifestyle.
A series of learning experiences is planned to be carried out for a week in a term with a different focus for each day, such as healthy eating and regular exercise; respecting and showing kindness to our friends; and building relationships with friends and adults through positive and purposeful interactions.
Term 1
Day 1: Social Well-being Activity - Bond Well with peers The teacher will read the story The Dot. As a class, children will take turns adding to a large sheet of paper, discussing their ideas before drawing. They will use sentence starters such as, “What should we draw next?” and “Can I draw now?”
Day 2: Physical Well-Being Activity - Exercise for a Healthy Body Theme: Move Well, Grow Well! — An engaging outdoor aerobics session designed to support fitness, coordination, and overall healthy development.
Day 3: Physical Well-Being Activity – Eat Well In this physical well-being activity focused on healthy eating, one teacher role-plays as a healthy hawker while reading Sometimes and Everyday Food. Children learn to distinguish between “sometimes” and “everyday” foods through discussion and hands-on materials.
Day 4: Social Well-being - Learn Well In this social well-being activity focused on learning well, children are guided on how to make appropriate choices when selecting shows to watch, helping them develop responsible viewing habits.
Day 5: Emotional Well-being - Sleep Well Teachers lead a class discussion about children’s bedtime routines and the activities they do before sleeping. Each child receives a bedtime chart to complete at home with their parents and later shares their routine with the class.
T.E.A Time
T.E.A. Time empowers teachers as Thinkers to provide Enriching and Authentic
learning experiences for young children. Besides fostering children's holistic
development, MK@WV also values our teachers' strengths and talents that
are recognised and appreciated through T.E.A. Time programme conducted
once every semester. It encompasses fun activities planned by the class
teachers ranging from a variety of art techniques, to simple science experiments
and even cookery, based on their strength and interests.
We're Going on a Bear Hunt Adventure
This lesson begins with children gathered in a circle to introduce the story We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, encouraging them to share their own exploring experiences and predictions. During story time, the book is read aloud with expressive voices and actions, inviting children to join in with repetitive phrases and discuss what might happen next.
The main activity is an obstacle course that mirrors scenes from the story—such
as walking through grass, jumping over a river, crawling through mud, weaving
through a forest, moving through a snowstorm, and crawling into a cave—while
the teacher narrates and children act out the adventure. The session ends
with a creative loose parts activity where children make a bear face, followed
by group reflection and calming “bear breaths” and stretches.
